Spirit of Peace   Spirit of Peace

This is the 26" tall model for a proposed life-size monument.

It is April 19, 1783.

The place: New Windsor, New York, the site of the last encampment of the Continental Army.

General Washington has just announced to his troops the Cessation of Hostilities that finally ends the Revolutionary War.
The men cheer and weep and carry the glorious news to their eagerly awaiting families.

The Spirit of Peace depicts one such family.

The first "official" American Family.

At long last Freedom is theirs to cherish, yet they know in their hearts that to keep that Freedom they will have to hold onto it as firmly
and with as much love as they, in the sculpture, hold onto one another.
